سورة يونس

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Allah the Exalted has singled out for His servants two verses from the Quran, so that they should not say what they do not know, and should not reject what they have no knowledge of. Allah has said: "Has not the covenant of the Book [of Allah] been taken from them, that they should not say [and fabricate lies] against Allah [and] speak only the truth" (al-A'raf/169). And He also said: "بَلْ کَذَّبُوا بِما لَمْ یُحِیطُوا بِعِلْمِهِ وَ لَمَّا یَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِیلُهُ [Nay, they rejected that of which they had no comprehensive knowledge, and the final sequel of it has not yet come to them]."

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): Imam Jawad (peace be upon him) narrated from his forefathers from Imam Ali (peace be upon him) that he used to say: "I have said four things which Allah the Exalted confirmed in the Quran... Among them is that I said: 'People show enmity toward that which they are ignorant of.' Then Allah the Exalted sent down [in confirmation of this saying of mine, this expression]: بَلْ کَذَّبُوا بِما لَمْ یُحِیطُوا بِعِلْمِهِ [Nay, they rejected that of which they had no comprehensive knowledge]."

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): Imam Rida (peace be upon him) narrated from his forefathers: "Whoever does not know something shows enmity toward it — similar to the wording of the verse بَلْ کَذَّبُوا بِما لَمْ یُحِیطُوا بِعِلْمِهِ [Nay, they rejected that of which they had no comprehensive knowledge]."

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): It is narrated from Humran that he said: I asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) about important matters such as the issue of raj'ah (return) and similar matters. The Imam replied: "The time of what you are asking about has not yet come, and Allah the Exalted has said: بَلْ کَذَّبُواْ بِمَا لَمْ یُحِیطُواْ بِعِلْمِهِ وَ لَمَّا یَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِیلُهُ [Nay, they rejected that of which they had no comprehensive knowledge, and the final sequel of it has not yet come to them]."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) was asked about the great matters that will come to pass but have not yet occurred. He answered: "The time for unveiling these matters has not yet come." Then he recited this verse: بَلْ کَذَّبُواْ بِمَا لَمْ یُحِیطُواْ بِعِلْمِهِ وَ لَمَّا یَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِیلُهُ [Nay, they reject that of which they have no comprehensive knowledge, and the final sequel of it has not yet come to them].

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): بَلْ کَذَّبُوا بِمَا لَمْ یُحِیطُوا بِعِلْمِهِ وَ لَمَّا یَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِیلُهُ [Nay, they reject that of which they have no comprehensive knowledge, and the final sequel of it has not yet come to them] — meaning its interpretation has not yet come to them. کَذَلِکَ کَذَّبَ الَّذِینَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ [even thus did those before them reject] — this is about the raj'a (return), which they denied, saying: "There will be no raj'a." Then Allah said: Some of them believe in it, and some do not; and your Lord best knows the mischief-makers. (Yunus/40)
