The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family): Addressing Ibn Mas'ud, he said: O son of Mas'ud! The one who commits adultery with his mother, his sin is lighter before Allah than the one who allows into his wealth the weight of a mustard seed of usury. And whoever drinks intoxicants, little or much, is worse before Allah than the consumer of usury, for it is the key to every evil. O son of Mas'ud! [The drinkers of wine] oppress the righteous, and they endorse the sinners and the transgressors. Truth in their view is falsehood, and falsehood in their view is truth. All of this is for the sake of the world, and they know that they are not upon the truth; and Satan has adorned their deeds in their eyes and has diverted them from the path of Allah, so that they will not see the way of guidance. [They are content with the life of this world and feel at rest by it, and those who are heedless of Our signs — those, their abode is the Fire because of what they used to earn].
