Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Abu Basir said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: "Among the least of the blessings of Paradise is that its fragrance reaches [the nostrils] from a distance of a thousand years of the distances of this world; and the lowest of the dwellings of Paradise is such that if all the jinn and human beings were to be the guests of its owner, food and drink would be enough for all of them and nothing of what he has would be diminished. And the one of the lowest rank among the people of Paradise is such that when he enters Paradise, three gardens are made manifest to him. When he enters the lowest of them, he sees so many spouses, servants, rivers and fruits that it fills his eyes with delight and his heart with joy. When he offers thanks and praise to Allah, he is addressed: 'Raise your head and look at the second garden, for in it are things not found in the other.' He says: 'My Lord! Grant me this garden.' Allah the Exalted says: 'If I give you this, you will ask Me for another.' He says: 'My Lord! I want only this, only this.' When he enters that garden, he offers thanks and praise to Allah. Then it is called out: 'Open for him a door to Paradise,' and he is told: 'Raise your head.' Suddenly a door of the eternal Paradise is opened for him and he sees several times what he had seen before; when his joy is multiplied, he says: 'My Lord! Praise that cannot be counted belongs solely to You, for You have graced me with [the gift of] the gardens and delivered me from the Fire.'" Abu Basir said: At this point I wept and said to him: "May my soul be your ransom! Tell me more." He said: "O Aba Muhammad! In Paradise there is a river on whose banks maidens have grown; whenever a believer passes by a maiden and is pleased with her, he plucks her from her place and Allah grows another maiden in her place." I said: "May my soul be your ransom! Tell me more." He said: "The believer will be married to eight hundred virgin spouses and four thousand non-virgin spouses and to two of the wide-eyed houris." I asked [in astonishment]: "May I be your ransom! Eight hundred virgin spouses?!" He said: "Yes! And whichever of them he lies with, he will still find her a virgin." I asked: "May I be your ransom! From what have the wide-eyed houris been created?" He said: "They have been created from the luminous soil of Paradise, and the marrow of their shins can be seen from behind seventy garments; the inside of the houri is the mirror of the believer and the inside of the believer is the mirror of the houri." I asked: "May I be your ransom! Do the houris have speech with which they address the people of Paradise?" He said: "Yes! They have speech more delightful than anything anyone has ever heard." I asked: "What is their speech?" He said: "With a soft and pleasing voice they say: 'We are the eternal ones, we do not die; we are the ever-blooming ones, we do not wither; we are the abiding ones, we do not depart; we are the well-pleased ones, we do not become angry. Blessed is he who has been created for us, and blessed are we who have been created for him! We are those that if a lock of hair of one of us were hung in the heights of the sky, its light would dazzle all eyes.'"
