Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): When this verse was revealed: يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ [On the Day when some faces will be white and some faces will be black], the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: "On the Day of Resurrection my ummah will come to me with five banners. One banner will be with the calf of this ummah. I will ask them: 'After me, what did you do with the two weighty things (the Qur'an and the Itrat (peace be upon them))?' They will say: 'We distorted the greater weight (the Qur'an) and cast it behind our backs, and we showed enmity to the lesser weight (the Itrat (peace be upon them)), harboured hatred and wronged it.' So I will say to them: 'Enter the Fire, thirsty and parched, with blackened faces.' Then a banner will come to me with the Pharaoh of this ummah. I will say: 'After me, what did you do with the two weighty things?' They will say: 'We distorted the greater weight, tore it apart and opposed it, and we showed enmity to the lesser weight and fought it.' So I will say: 'Enter the Fire, thirsty and parched, with blackened faces.' Then a banner will come to me with the Samiri of this ummah. I will say to them: 'After me, what did you do with the two weighty things?' They will say: 'We disobeyed the greater weight and abandoned it, and we did not help the lesser weight and destroyed it.' So I will say: 'Enter the Fire, thirsty and parched, with blackened faces.' Then the banner of Dhu al-Thudayya will come to me together with the first and the last of the Khawarij. I will ask them: 'After me, what did you do with the two weighty things?' They will say: 'We tore apart the greater weight and disowned it, and we fought the lesser weight and killed it.' So I will say: 'Enter the Fire, thirsty and parched, with blackened faces.' Then a banner will come to me with the leader of the Allah-fearing, the master of the successors, the leader of the bright-faced ones and the successor of the Messenger (peace be upon him and his family) of the Lord of the Worlds. I will say to them: 'After me, what did you do with the two weighty things?' They will say: 'We followed and obeyed the greater weight, and we loved the lesser weight, supported, aided and strengthened it, until our blood was shed for their sake.' So I will say: 'Enter Paradise, fully quenched and with white faces.' Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) recited this verse: يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ ... فَفِي رَحْمَتِ اللهِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ [On the Day when some faces will be white and some faces will be black ... they will be in the mercy of Allah, abiding therein forever]."
