Ibn Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him): Dihyah al-Kalbi had brought a caravan from Sham on Friday and stopped near Ahjar al-Zayt, and then, in order to inform the people of his arrival, he began beating the drums. All the people, except Ali, Hasan, Husayn and Fatima (peace be upon them), and Salman (may Allah have mercy on him), Abu Dharr (may Allah have mercy on him), Miqdad (may Allah have mercy on him) and Suhayb (may Allah have mercy on him), went to him and left the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), who was standing in prayer and delivering the sermon. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: "Allah looked upon my mosque on Friday, and had it not been for these eight persons who were seated in my mosque, He would surely have brought down fire upon the people of Medina and rained stones upon them as He did upon the people of Lut. Concerning this group, the verse was revealed: 'Men whom neither trade nor selling diverts from the remembrance of Allah and the establishment of prayer and the giving of zakat; they fear a day when hearts and eyes will be overturned.' (Nur/37)."
