سورة المطففين

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): In a hadith it is reported: When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) recited this verse — يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعالَمينَ [The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds] — he said: "People will stand until each of them [is hidden in his own sweat up to the middle of his ears] — the sweat pours down to the edges of his ears."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): The example of people on the Day of Resurrection, when they stand before the Lord of the worlds, is like the example of an arrow in a quiver — none of them has any space on the ground of the Gathering except the place of his own foot, like that arrow in the quiver, and he cannot move from this side to that side or shift his place.

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): On the Day of Resurrection the sun draws near to the earth and brings out the sweat [of people]. Some of the people — their sweat reaches their heels; some of them — [their sweat] reaches the middle of their shins; some of them — [their sweat] reaches their knees; others — [their sweat] reaches their thighs; some of them — it reaches their waist; and some of the people — it reaches their mouth (he pointed with his hand and brought the hand to his mouth); and some of them — their sweat covers them, and he struck his head with his hand like this.

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): .... He was asked: "What is the wisdom that adhan has been prescribed for the prayer, but for other acts of worship neither adhan nor a supplication has been made obligatory?" He said: "Because the prayer resembles the states of the Day of Resurrection: the adhan resembles the first blowing (of the trumpet) for the death of creation, and the iqama resembles the second blowing, as Allah the Exalted said: 'And listen and await the day when the caller will call from a nearby place.' (Qaf/41) — meaning: give ear! That day when the caller — who is Israfil — calls from a nearby place. And standing for the prayer resembles standing before the reckoning of the Lord, as Allah the Exalted said: يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعالَمِين [The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds]."

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): It is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) that he recited this verse: يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعالَمينَ [The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds], then said: "How will your state be when Allah gathers you together the way arrows are gathered in a quiver, for fifty thousand years, and He pays you no regard." And Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said: "And it is the day on which Allah will gather the first ones and the last ones for the scrutiny of accounts and the recompense of deeds. They will stand humbly, sweat running up to the corners of their mouths, and the earth trembling beneath their feet. The best of them in state will be the one who finds a place to set his two feet, or a spacious spot for his own comfort."
