Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Aban ibn Uthman narrated from Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) who said: "Iblis — may Allah curse him — used to pierce through the seven heavens [and go up]. When Isa (peace be upon him) was born, he was barred from three heavens and could pierce through [only] four. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) was born, he was barred from all seven, and the satans began to be driven back [from the heavens] with the stars. Quraysh said, 'This is the Resurrection which we used to hear the People of the Book speak of.' Amr ibn Umayya, who was among the most prominent soothsayers of the age of Jahiliyya (pre-Islamic ignorance), said, 'Look at the stars by which paths are found and by which the times of winter and summer are known: if these stars are being cast, it is the sign of the destruction of everything [and the time of the Resurrection]; and if they remain fixed and other stars are being cast, then it is the sign of a new [and great] event.' All the idols, on the morning of the birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), fell upon their faces on the ground. That night the arch of Kisra shook and fourteen of its battlements collapsed. The water of Lake Sawa sank into the earth. The fire-temple of Fars, which had not been extinguished for a thousand years before that, went out. The Mubadhan (the great Zoroastrian scholar) that night saw in a dream unruly camels leading Arab horsemen behind them, crossing the Tigris and spreading through the Zoroastrian lands, and the roof of the palace of King Kisra split down the middle and the Tigris flowed over it. That night a light spread from the direction of Hijaz, and shortly afterward it extended until it reached the East. The thrones of all the kings of the world were overturned, and every king on that day was struck dumb and could not speak, the knowledge of the soothsayers was taken away, the sorcery of the sorcerers was nullified, and every Arab soothsayer was cut off from his companion [among the jinn]. Quraysh gained eminence among the Arabs and were called Al-Allah (the Household of Allah)." Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: "Since Quraysh lived in the vicinity of Bayt Allah al-Haram (the Kaaba), the people called them Al-Allah." And Amina (the mother of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family)) said, 'By Allah! When my son came into the world, he placed his hand on the ground and raised his head toward the sky and looked at the heaven; then a light came out of me that illuminated everything, and within that light I heard a speaker saying, "You have given birth to the master and lord of all people; name him Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)."' They brought him to Abd al-Muttalib (peace be upon him) for him to see, and this while what his mother had said had reached the ears of Abd al-Muttalib (peace be upon him). Abd al-Muttalib (peace be upon him) took him and placed him in his lap and said, 'Praise be to Allah who has granted us this pure child, who in the cradle has mastery over the other children.' Then he rubbed him against the pillars of the Kaaba [for blessing and protection from harm] and composed verses about him. Iblis let out a cry and summoned all the satans. They all came to him and said, 'O our master! What has caused you to cry out and be so restless?' He said, 'Woe to you! Since last night the state of the heavens and the earth has become unbelievable to me. Surely on the earth a great event has occurred, the like of which has not happened since Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) was raised [to heaven]! Go out and see what that event is.' They dispersed, and after a while [again] all gathered before Iblis and said, 'We found nothing.' Iblis said, 'I myself must do this task.' Then he plunged into the world and roamed it until he reached Masjid al-Haram, and he saw it surrounded by the angels. He went forward to enter, but the angels shouted at him [to turn back] and he turned back. Then he became like a sparrow and entered the Haram from the direction of Mount Hira. Jibra'il said to him, 'May Allah curse you! Get out!' Iblis said to him, 'O Jibra'il! I ask you only one word: what has happened on the earth since last night?' Jibra'il said to him, 'Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) has been born.' Iblis said, 'Can I deceive him?' He said, 'No.' Iblis said, 'Can I deceive his ummah?' He said, 'Yes.' Iblis said, 'I am content.'"
