The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family): Any servant who turns his attention in prayer to other than Allah, Allah says to him: 'O My servant! To whom have you turned and from whom are you asking? Do you want a Lord other than Me? Or do you seek a watcher [and companion] apart from Me? Do you consider anyone other than Me worthy of giving? I am more noble than every noble one, more generous than every generous one, and the best of givers; I will give you a reward whose measure cannot be counted. Turn to Me, for I and My angels have turned to you.' So if that servant accepts and turns toward Allah, Allah wipes away the sin that came from him (heedlessness of Allah), and if he becomes heedless again, Allah repeats His words to him again. So if he accepts [and turns toward Allah], Allah wipes away the sin that came from him (heedlessness of Allah), and if he becomes heedless again, He repeats His words to him a third time. So if he accepts [and turns toward the prayer], Allah forgives the sin that came from him [heedlessness of Allah], and if he becomes inattentive a fourth time, Allah and His angels turn away from him, and Allah says to him: 'Woe to you, O My servant! Because you have turned away [from Me]!'
