سورة طه

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): أَفَلَمْ یَهْدِ لَهُمْ [Does it not then direct them aright]; that is, did He not make it clear to them.

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): أَ فَلَمْ یَهْدِ لَهُمْ [Does it not then direct them aright]; meaning, did He not make it clear to them. یَمْشُونَ فِی مَساکِنِهِمْ [In whose dwelling-places they go about]; meaning, these people see the traces of their destruction and ruin.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Ammar ibn Asim al-Sijistani said: I came to the door of Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), entered upon him and said: "Inform me about the snake, the scorpion, the black beetle and the like of that." He said: "Have you not read the Book of Allah?" I said: "I do not know the whole of the Qur'an." He said: "Have you not read: کَمْ أَهْلَکْنا قَبْلَهُمْ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ یَمْشُونَ فِی مَساکِنِهِمْ إِنَّ فِی ذَلِکَ [How many generations did We destroy before them, in whose dwelling-places they walk about; indeed in that…]?" The Imam said: "They are those who came out from their homes and it was said to them: Be something (that is, be transformed)."

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family): Then Allah said: أَ فَلَمْ یَهْدِ لَهُمْ کَمْ أَهْلَکْنا قَبْلَهُمْ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ یَمْشُونَ فِی مَساکِنِهِمْ إِنَّ فِی ذلِکَ لَآیاتٍ لِأُولِی النُّهی [Does it not then direct them aright how many of the generations, in whose dwelling-places they go about, We destroyed before them? Most surely there are signs in this for those endowed with understanding] — [they] are the Imams (peace be upon them), and whatever is in the Qur'an like it, such as ulu al-albab and the like of these, is a reference to the Imams (peace be upon them).

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): إِنَّ فِی ذلِکَ لَآیاتٍ لِأُولِی النُّهی [Most surely there are signs in this for those endowed with understanding]; we are those endowed with understanding.

Imam Kazim (peace be upon him): Allah the Mighty and Majestic has said: إِنَّ فِی ذَلِکَ لَآیَاتٍ لِأُولِی النُّهَی [Indeed in that are signs for those endowed with understanding], and they are the Imams (peace be upon them) from the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), and there is no verse like it in the Quran. Allah then says: وَ لَوْلَا کَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِنْ رَبِّکَ لَکَانَ لِزَامًا وَ أَجَلٌ مُسَمًّی* فَاصْبِرْ [And were it not for a word that had already gone forth from your Lord, it would have been inevitable, and (were it not for) a specified term. So be patient]; that is: O Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)! You and your descendants, be patient in the face of what they say. And before the rising of the sun, and before its setting, glorify and praise your Lord.

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): لِأُولِی النُّهی [for those endowed with understanding]; that is, the possessors of intellect and reason, whose very intellect forbids and restrains them from heedlessness and blindness of heart.
