The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): Ibn Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Forty men from the Jews of Medina said: "Let us go to this lying soothsayer and rebuke him to his face and belie him, for he claims: I am the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds! How can he be a messenger, when Adam (peace be upon him) is better than him; Nuh (peace be upon him) is better than him?!" And they named the prophets (peace be upon them) one by one. ... The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said to Abdullah ibn Salam: "Let the Torah be the judge between me and you." The Jews agreed to the Torah. And they said: "Adam (peace be upon him) is better than you, because Allah created him with His own hand and breathed into him of His spirit." The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: "Adam (peace be upon him) is my father, but I have been given better than what was given to Adam (peace be upon him)." They asked: "What is that?" He said: "A caller calls out five times every day: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً رَسُولُ الله [I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah], but he does not say Adam (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. And the banner of praise on the Day of Resurrection is in my hand, not in the hand of Adam (peace be upon him)." They said: "You have spoken the truth, O Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)!"
