Lady Zahra (peace be upon her) — Suwayd ibn Ghafala said: When Fatima (peace be upon her) fell ill with the very illness that led to her passing, and when her illness grew severe, a group of the women of the Muhajirun and Ansar gathered to visit her. They greeted her and said: 'O daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family)! How is your illness, and how are you coping with it?' She praised Allah the Glorified and sent blessings upon her father, and then she said: 'My condition is such that I am utterly disgusted with your world and I hate your men! I tested their state and their words, and I am deeply displeased with what they did, and I have set them aside. How ugly is the bluntness of swords after their sharpness, and toying with religion after having accepted seriousness [willingly and eagerly]; how ugly it is to strike one's head against solid rock and for the spear to be split in two on account of false opinions and slipping from caprice and desire! What an evil provision they have sent ahead for themselves. They brought upon themselves the wrath of Allah and in the Fire and its flames they shall abide forever. Out of desperation [and to make a show of Islam] they have hung the rope of matters and [religious] duties around their necks; I have consigned to them the weight and responsibility of the task and loaded upon them the disgrace of slaying justice. Eternal curse be upon these deceivers, far removed from the mercy of the Truth be these oppressors, woe to them! Why did they move the caliphate from its firm and stable place! How did they displace the foundations of prophethood and the signs of the religion! How did they displace the house which was the place of the descent of Jibra'il and the place of the coming and going of the righteous who were aware of the welfare of this world and the next! Be aware — indeed that is a most great loss!'
