Ibn Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him): The meaning of taking the path of falsehood concerning the verses of Allah ... is that the misguided alter the verses of the Quran and apply them [through incorrect interpretations and explanations] in a place other than their true place.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him): أَ فَمَنْ یُلْقی فِی النَّارِ خَیْرٌ [What! is he then who is cast into the fire better] — he is Walid ibn Mughira; أَمْ مَنْ یَأْتِی آمِناً یَوْمَ الْقِیامَةِ [or he who comes safe on the day of resurrection] — meaning safe from the punishment of Allah and His wrath, and he is Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him). اعْمَلُوا ما شِئْتُمْ [Do what you like] ...

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): The enemies of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) saw nothing more effective in carrying out the full extent of their scheming than to turn the Muslims away from following his [true] successor, to make them recoil from him, to bar them from him, and to incite them to enmity against him; and [another part of their plot was]: they set out to change the Quran that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) had brought, and they wanted to remove from the Quran the verses which indicate the excellence of those possessing merit and the disbelief of the disbelievers and of those who joined them in their oppression, tyranny and disbelief. Yet Allah was aware of their intention and said: إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یُلْحِدُونَ فِی آیاتِنا لا یَخْفَوْنَ عَلَیْنا [Surely they who deviate from the right way concerning Our communications are not hidden from Us]; and He said: they want to alter the speech of Allah (Fath/15).

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یُلْحِدُونَ فِی آیاتِنا لا یَخْفَوْنَ عَلَیْنا [Surely they who deviate from the right way concerning Our communications are not hidden from Us]; meaning those who deny Our verses and signs are not hidden from Our sight. Then Allah the Mighty and Majestic asks according to the figurative style and says: أَ فَمَنْ یُلْقی فِی النَّارِ خَیْرٌ أَمْ مَنْ یَأْتِی آمِناً یَوْمَ الْقِیامَةِ اعْمَلُوا ما شِئْتُمْ إِنَّهُ بِما تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِیرٌ [What! is he then who is cast into the fire better, or he who comes safe on the day of resurrection? Do what you like, surely He sees what you do]. He also says further: إِنَّ الَّذِینَ کَفَرُوا بِالذِّکْرِ لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ [Surely those who disbelieved in the Reminder when it came to them] and إِنَّهُ لَکِتَابٌ عَزِیزٌ [and indeed it is a mighty Book]; by "the Reminder" is meant the Noble Quran.

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): I train my soul with piety, so that on the Day of Resurrection, which is the most terrifying of days, it may be safe and stand firm on its slippery places.

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): Allah the Exalted says: "By My honour and My majesty, I do not combine two fears upon My servant, nor do I combine two securities for him. So if he feels secure from Me in the world, I will make him fear on the Day of Resurrection, and if he fears Me in the world, I will grant him security on the Day of Resurrection."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Mas'ada ibn Sadaqa said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said to one of his companions, "Shall I not inform you of something that draws [a person] near to Allah and Paradise and takes him far from Hell?" He said, "Yes, may I be made your ransom!" The Imam (peace be upon him) said, "Hold fast to generosity and giving, for Allah, through His mercy, created a group so that He might bestow His [special] mercy upon them; so He made them worthy of good deeds, a place for good works, and honoured among people, so that people hasten toward them so that they may give life to people just as rain gives life to the parched earth. They are the ones who, on the Day of Resurrection, are the true believers and are at ease."
