The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): O son of Mas'ud! By the One who sent me with the truth, a time will come upon people when they will consider wine lawful and call it nabidh. The curse of Allah, the angels, and all people be upon them; I am free from them and they are free from me. O son of Mas'ud! One who commits adultery with his mother [his reckoning] is easier than one who lets even a mustard seed's weight of usury (riba) enter his wealth, and one who drinks wine, whether little or much, is worse in the sight of Allah than one who consumes usury, because wine is the key to every evil. O son of Mas'ud! They oppress the righteous and endorse the wicked and the corrupt; truth in their eyes is falsehood, and falsehood in their eyes is truth. All of this is for the sake of the world, and they know that they are upon other than the truth, but Satan has adorned their deeds for them and blocked their path, so they are not guided. "And they are content with the life of this world and rely on it, and those who are heedless of Our signs — [all of] them, their abode is the Fire because of what they used to earn!" (Yunus/7-8). O son of Mas'ud! Allah the Exalted has said: [And whoever turns away from the remembrance of the Most Merciful, We appoint for him a devil, so he becomes his companion. And indeed, they turn them away from the path while they think that they are guided. Until, when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts — what a wretched companion!].
