Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): Jabir narrates: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) was among you in Kufa, and every day at the beginning of the morning he would go out from Dar al-Imara (the governor's residence) and go around the markets of Kufa one by one. With him, upon his shoulder, was a whip which had two ends and was called "Sabiba." He would stand before the people of each market and call out: "O company of merchants! Adopt the fear of Allah." When they heard his voice, they would throw down what they had in their hands and give their hearts and souls to his words, and listen with their ears as he said: "Put seeking good from Allah first [before buying and selling], and seek blessing through easy dealing in transactions, and draw close to the buyers (do not sell at high prices, for they will flee from you), and adorn yourselves with the ornament of forbearance and patience, and refrain from swearing oaths, and keep away from lying, and stay far from oppression, and treat the oppressed with fairness. And do not take usury. And وَ أَوْفُوا الْکَیْلَ وَ الْمِیزانَ وَ لا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْیاءَهُمْ وَ لا تَعْثَوْا فِی الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِینَ [give full measure and weight with justice, and do not diminish anything of people's property, and do not act corruptly on the earth, causing mischief]." He would go around all the markets of Kufa, then return and sit down to attend to the affairs of the people.
