Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Ibn Abi Ya'fur said: "I came into the presence of Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) while a number of his companions were with him." He said: "O Ibn Abi Ya'fur! Have you recited the Qur'an?" [Ibn Abi Ya'fur] said; I said: "Yes, this recitation [of the Qur'an I have read]." He said: "I asked you about that [recitation], not about any other." He said; I replied: "Yes [I have read it], may I be your ransom, and why [do you not ask about any other recitation]?" He said: "Because Musa (peace be upon him) told his people something which they could not bear from him, so they rose against him in Egypt and fought him, and he fought them and killed them. And because Isa (peace be upon him) told his people something which they could not bear from him, so they rose against him at Takrit and fought him, and he fought them and killed them. And that is the saying of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: فَآمَنَتْ طائِفَةٌ مِنْ بَنِی إِسْرائِیلَ وَ کَفَرَتْ طائِفَةٌ فَأَیَّدْنَا الَّذِینَ آمَنُوا عَلی عَدُوِّهِمْ فَأَصْبَحُوا ظاهِرِینَ [So a party of the children of Israel believed and another party disbelieved; then We aided those who believed against their enemy, and they became uppermost]. And when the first Qa'im from us, the Ahl al-Bayt, rises, he will say something to you which you will not bear, and you will rise against him at Rumaylat al-Daskarah (the small sand-hills of the palace) and fight him, and he will fight you and kill you, and that is the last uprising that will take place. Then, O Ibn Ya'fur! [the Resurrection will occur and] Allah will gather together the first ones and the last ones. Then Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) will be brought forth among the people of his time, and he will be asked: 'O Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)! [Did] you deliver My message and argue with them by what I had commanded you to speak to them with?' He will say: 'Yes, my Lord!' Then He will ask the people: 'Did he deliver [it] to you and argue with you?' A group will say: 'No.' Then He will ask Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), and he will say: 'Yes, my Lord!' Allah the Blessed and Exalted knows that he did that; [nevertheless He] repeats [the same question] three times. Then He will affirm Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and declare that people to be liars. Then they will be driven to the fire of Hell. Then Ali (peace be upon him) will be brought forth among the people of his time, and he will be addressed just as Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) was addressed, and a group will declare him a liar, and Allah will affirm him and declare them liars. He will repeat that three times. Then Hasan (peace be upon him) [will be brought forth], then Husayn (peace be upon him), then Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon him), and he has the fewest companions. His companions were Abu Khalid al-Kabuli, Yahya ibn Umm al-Tawil, Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, Amir ibn Wathila, and Jabir ibn Abd Allah al-Ansari, and these are witnesses to that with which [the community] was argued against. Then my father, that is, Muhammad ibn Ali (peace be upon him), will be brought forth in like manner [in the matters mentioned, among his community]. Then you will be brought forth, and I will be asked and you will be asked; so look to what you will do, O Ibn Abi Ya'fur! Allah the Mighty and Majestic has commanded obedience to Him, obedience to His Messenger (peace be upon him and his family), and obedience to the ulu'l-amr (those in authority) who are the successors of His Messenger (peace be upon him and his family). O Ibn Abi Ya'fur! We are the proofs of Allah among His servants, His witnesses over His creation, His trustees on His earth, His treasurers over His knowledge, the callers to His path, and those who act upon it; so whoever obeys us has obeyed Allah, and whoever disobeys us has disobeyed Allah."
