Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Fear Allah and do not envy one another. One of the practices of Isa (peace be upon him) was travelling through the lands. On one of his journeys he was travelling with a short man who was among his companions, and that man was constantly with Isa (peace be upon him). When Isa (peace be upon him) reached the sea, he uttered Bismillah upon his tongue and, with certainty, cast himself upon the water and walked upon the water. When the short man saw Isa (peace be upon him) doing so, he too said Bismillah and cast himself into the water. After he had entered the sea, the man was seized by self-conceit and vanity and said: This is Isa Ruhullah (peace be upon him) walking upon the water, and I too am walking; so what merit has he over me? When this thought came to his mind, he sank into the water. He suddenly came to his senses and turned to Isa (peace be upon him), calling upon him for rescue. Isa (peace be upon him) came and saved him and then said: "O Qaysar, what did you say that this happened?" He said: "I said to myself, this Isa Ruhullah crosses the water and I too cross it, and self-conceit overtook me." Isa (peace be upon him) said to him: "You placed yourself in a station in which you were not; and for this reason you were struck by Allah's wrath. Now repent from what you said." He repented and once again reached the same station. So now fear Allah and do not envy [one another].
