سورة مريم

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): Yahya (peace be upon him) was born five years after the good news of him was given from Allah.

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): The meaning is that before him no one had been named with the name Yahya.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): The name Husayn had not existed before Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), and the name Yahya had not existed before the Prophet Yahya (peace be upon him).

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) concerning the verse لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِیًّا [We have not made before anyone his equal] that he said: "What is meant by it is Yahya (peace be upon him) and the light of my eye, Husayn (peace be upon him)."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِیًّا [We have not made before anyone his equal] — what is meant by this verse is Yahya ibn Zakariyya (peace be upon him), for before him no one had such a name. And Husayn (peace be upon him) is likewise, and before him no one had been named with this name; and the sky wept for these two alone, for forty mornings. It was said: "How was the weeping of the sky?" He said: "The sun would rise red and set red." And he also said: "The killer of Husayn (peace be upon him) and the killer of Yahya ibn Zakariyya (peace be upon him) were both born of fornication."

Imam Husayn (peace be upon him): It is narrated from Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him): We set out with Husayn (peace be upon him) towards a place, and he did not alight at any halting-place nor depart from it without mentioning Yahya ibn Zakariyya (peace be upon him) and his killing. One day he said: "Among the signs of the worthlessness of this world before Allah the Exalted is that the severed head of Yahya ibn Zakariyya was presented as a gift to one of the tyrants and rebels of the Bani Israil."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): The sky did not weep for anyone from the time Yahya ibn Zakariya (peace be upon him) was killed until Husayn (peace be upon him) was killed, and it wept for him.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a long hadith about the Resurrection: Then Jibra'il calls out: "Where is Fatimah (peace be upon her), the daughter of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)? Where is Khadijah (peace be upon her)? Where is Maryam (peace be upon her)? Where is Asiyah (peace be upon her)? Where is Umm Kulthum, the mother of Yahya ibn Zakariya (peace be upon her)?" Then they all rose.
