سورة الأنبياء

Imam Hasan (peace be upon him): Ibn Shahrashub narrates from Hasan ibn Ali (peace be upon him) regarding the passing of his father: "The soul of that Imam (that is, the soul of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him)) ascended to the heavens on the same night on which the soul of Yahya ibn Zakariya (peace be upon him) had ascended to the heavens."

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): وَ أَصْلَحْنَا لَهُ زَوْجَهُ [And We made his wife fit for him] — his wife did not menstruate, but after this, she did.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family): O Ibn Mas'ud! All of these [prophets] hated what Allah hated, considered insignificant what Allah considered insignificant, and showed detachment from what Allah does not love. Allah praised them in His Book, and about Nuh (peace be upon him) He said: "Indeed he was a grateful servant." (Isra/3) And about Ibrahim (peace be upon him) He said: "And Allah took Ibrahim as a friend." (Nisa/125) And about Dawud (peace be upon him) He said: "Indeed We have made you a caliph [and Our representative] on the earth." (Sad/26) And about Musa (peace be upon him) He said: "And Allah spoke to Musa directly." (Nisa/164) And also about Musa (peace be upon him) He said: "We drew him near [to Us] in intimate converse." (Maryam/125) And about Yahya (peace be upon him) He said: "And We gave him the command of prophethood [and full understanding] in childhood!" (Maryam/12) And about Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) He said: "[Remember] when Allah said to Isa ibn Maryam: 'Recall the favour I bestowed upon you and your mother! When I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so you spoke to people in the cradle and in maturity.'" (Ma'ida/110) And He said: إِنَّهُمْ کانُوا یُسارِعُونَ فِی الخَیْراتِ وَ یَدْعُونَنا رَغَباً وَ رَهَباً وَ کانُوا لَنا خاشِعِینَ [Indeed they used to hasten in good deeds and to call upon Us in hope and fear, and they were humble before Us].

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): وَ یَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَ رَهَبًا [and they call upon Us in hope and fear] — the meaning is that they call upon Allah out of hope and fear.

Imam Kazim (peace be upon him): raghaban (longing) is that you turn the fingers of your two hands towards the sky and hold them facing your face; and rahaban (fearing) is that you turn your palms downward and in that same form raise them up to your face.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): رَغَباً is that you turn the palms of your two hands toward the sky, and رَهَباً is that you turn the backs of your hands toward the sky.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): He mentioned رَغَباً and opened the insides of his two palms toward the sky (raghba is like this); and as for رَهَباً, it is like this; and he turned the backs of his two hands toward the sky.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Muhammad ibn Muslim said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: A man passed by me while I was supplicating in my prayer with my left hand, and he said: "O Aba Abdillah (peace be upon him), with your right hand [supplicate]!" I said: "O servant of Allah! Indeed Allah, Blessed and Exalted, has a right upon this [hand] just as He has a right upon that [hand]." And he (peace be upon him) said: "Raghba (hope) is that you spread out your two hands and show their insides, and rahba (fear) is that you spread out your two hands and show their backs."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): People worship Allah the Mighty and Majestic in three ways: one class worships Him out of desire for His reward — this is the worship of the greedy and is based on covetousness; another worships Him out of fear of the Fire — this is the worship of slaves and is out of fear; but I worship Him out of love for Him the Mighty and Majestic — this is the worship of the noble ones.
