Imam Ali (peace be upon him): Zayd ibn Wahb said: Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) was asked about the veils, and he said: "The first of the veils are seven, the thickness of each veil is a distance of five hundred years, and between every two of them is a distance of five hundred years. The third [set of] veils is seventy veils, between every two of them is a distance of five hundred years and its length is five hundred years, and each veil of them has seventy thousand angels, the strength of each angel of them being the strength of the two weighty ones [jinn and mankind]. Some of them are darkness, some light, some fire, some smoke, some cloud, some lightning, some rain, some thunder, some brightness, some sand, some mountain, some dust, some water, and some rivers — and these are different veils, the thickness of each veil being a distance of seventy thousand years. Then [come] the canopies of Majesty, which are seventy canopies, in each canopy are seventy thousand angels, and between every two canopies is a distance of five hundred years. Then the canopy of Might, then the canopy of Grandeur, then the canopy of Magnificence, then the canopy of Holiness, then the canopy of Omnipotence, then the canopy of Pride, then the white light, then the canopy of Oneness, which is a distance of seventy thousand years by seventy thousand years, then the Highest Veil." His (peace be upon him) speech ended and he fell silent. Umar said to him: "O Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him)! May I not live to see a day on which I do not see you."
