Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Sadir said: I, Abu Basir, Muyassar, Yahya al-Bazzaz and Dawud al-Raqqi were in the gathering of Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) when the Imam (peace be upon him) came in flushed and angry, and when he took his seat, he said: "I am amazed at people who suppose that we know the unseen! No one knows the unseen except Allah. I wanted to strike a certain maidservant of mine, and she hid herself from me, and I could not tell in which room of the house she was." And when he rose from that gathering and set off for his house, I, Abu Basir and Muyassar came in upon him and said: "May we be your ransom! We heard what you said about your maidservant, and we know that you have much knowledge which is not attributed to the unseen." He said: "O Sadir! Have you not read the Quran?" I said: "May I be your ransom! We have read the Quran." He said: "Have you read the verse: قَالَ الَّذِی عِندَهُ عِلْمٌ مِّنَ الْکِتَابِ أَنَا آتِیکَ بِهِ قَبْلَ أَن یَرْتَدَّ إِلَیْکَ طَرْفُکَ [One who had the knowledge of the Book said: I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you]?" I said: "May I be your ransom! I have read it." He said: "Did you recognise that man, and did you know how much of the knowledge of the Book was with him?" I said: "Inform me so that I may know." He said: "The amount of a single drop from abundant rain in the green sea. How much of the knowledge of the Book does this amount comprise?" I said: "May I be your ransom! Very little." He said: "O Sadir! How great is this amount, for one to whom Allah does not ascribe it — compared with the knowledge of which I am informing you! O Sadir! Have you also read in what you have read of the Book of Allah, where He says: قُلْ کَفَی بِاللهِ شَهِیداً بَیْنِی وَ بَیْنَکُمْ وَ مَنْ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْکِتَابِ [Say: Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you, and whoever has the knowledge of the Book (and awareness of the Quran) with him]!. (Ar-Ra'd/43)?" I said: "I have read it, may I be your ransom." He said: "Is the one who has all the knowledge of the Book more understanding, or the one who has only a part of the knowledge of the Book?" I said: "No, rather the one who has the knowledge of the whole Book is more understanding." Then he pointed with his hand to his chest and said: "By Allah, the knowledge of the Book is with us; by Allah, all of it is with us."
