سورة النساء

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family): Two groups from my ummah will not attain my intercession: "the tyrannical and oppressive leader, and the one who exceeds the bounds (ghuluww) in religion and departs from the framework of its principles."

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): O Allah! I dissociate myself from those who exceed the bounds (ghuluww), just as Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) dissociated himself from the Christians. O Allah, disgrace them forever and do not help any one of them.

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): The obligations of the tongue are to declare the beliefs of the heart and to express what one has inwardly believed in. Allah the Exalted says in this regard: Say: "آمَنَّا بِاللهِ وَ ما أُنْزِلَ إِلَیْنا وَ ما أُنْزِلَ إِلی إِبْراهِیمَ وَ إِسْماعِیلَ وَ إِسْحاقَ وَ یَعْقُوبَ [We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqub]." (Al-Baqarah 2:136) And in another place He said: قُولُوا لِلنَّاسِ حُسْناً وَ أَقِیمُوا الصَّلاةَ وَ آتُوا الزَّکاةَ [Speak good to the people, establish the prayer and give the zakat]. (Al-Baqarah 2:83) Allah commanded the declaration of truth and abstention from falsehood.

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): Al-Masih (peace be upon him) was named by this name because his body was wiped clean (mamsuh) and purified of impurities and defilements.

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): The son of Maryam (peace be upon her) was formed in the womb [of the mother], not in the loins [of a father], although he had [been created] in the loins of the prophets.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Humran said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the word of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: وَ رُوحٌ مِنْهُ [and a spirit from Him]. He said: "It is the spirit of Allah, created, which Allah cast into the mould of creation, and which Allah created in Adam and Isa (peace be upon them)."

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): Regarding the verse فَآمِنُوا بِاللهِ وَ رُسُلِهِ وَ لا تَقُولُوا ثَلاثَةٌ انْتَهُوا [So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say "Three"; desist], he said: "It is addressed to those who held Allah, Isa and Maryam to be gods, and Allah said: انْتَهُوا خَیْراً لَکُمْ إِنَّمَا اللهُ إِلهٌ واحِدٌ سُبْحانَهُ أَنْ یَکُونَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ لَهُ ما فِی السَّماواتِ وَ ما فِی الْأَرْضِ وَ کَفی بِاللهِ وَکِیلاً [desist, it is better for you; indeed Allah is only one Allah, exalted is He above having a son; to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and Allah is sufficient as a Protector]."
