Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): When Abdullah ibn Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) along with his family were taken [in the time of Mansur Dawaniqi] to the prison of Kufa, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) wrote a letter to him, expressing his condolences over this event in this way: "بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِیمِ [In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful]; [this is a letter] addressed to the righteous survivor and the pure offspring [from the lineage of Imam Hasan (peace be upon him)], from his nephew and cousin. As for what follows: if you and your family alone have been afflicted with this trial, know that its grief, distress, sorrow of heart and its heart-rending pain is not for you alone; to the same extent that you have been grieved and saddened, I too am in distress, restlessness and sorrow. Except that I turn my attention to the command that Allah has given to the pious concerning patience and beautiful endurance, where He addresses His Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and says: وَ اصْبِرْ لِحُکْمِ رَبِّکَ فَإِنَّکَ بِأَعْیُنِنا [And wait patiently for the judgement of your Lord, for surely you are before Our eyes]."
