Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): When the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) took Ali's (peace be upon him) hand on the day of Ghadir Khumm, Satan let out a cry among his troops, and not one of them remained — whether on land or sea — but they rushed to him at the sound of his cry and said: 'O our master and lord! What has befallen you? We have never heard from you a cry more terrifying than this one.' He said to them: 'This Prophet has done a deed such that, if it truly comes to fruition, no one will ever again disobey Allah.' They replied: 'O our master! You deceived Adam.' And when the hypocrites said: 'This man [the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family)] speaks out of desire,' and one said to the other: 'Do you not see how his eyes roll in the sockets of his head? As if he has gone mad' — meaning the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) — at that moment Satan let out a cry of joy and his companions again gathered round him. He said to them: 'Do you know what I did before with Adam, the father of mankind?' They said: 'Yes!' He said: 'Adam broke his covenant but did not disbelieve in the Lord; but these people broke their covenant and also disbelieved in the Messenger (peace be upon him and his family).'
