Imam Rida (peace be upon him): Abd al-Salam ibn Salih al-Harawi said: I said to Imam Rida (peace be upon him): ... "O son of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family)! What is the meaning of this report in which it is said: 'The reward for saying لا اله الا الله [there is no god but Allah] is looking upon the face of Allah the Exalted'?" In reply he said: "O Aba Salt! Whoever describes Allah with a face like other faces has in truth become a disbeliever. Rather, the face of Allah the Exalted are His prophets, messengers and proofs — may the blessings of Allah be upon them all. It is through them that a person turns towards Allah the Mighty and Majestic and inclines towards His religion and His recognition. Allah the Exalted has said: كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ وَ يَبْقَى وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ [All that is on it will perish, and there will endure the face of your Lord], and He, the Mighty and Majestic, has also said: everything perishes except His [pure] essence. (Al-Qasas/88) So looking upon the prophets, messengers and proofs of Allah (peace be upon them) in their ranks on the Day of Resurrection is a great reward for the believers. And indeed the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'Whoever holds enmity towards my household and my progeny will not see me on the Day of Resurrection, nor will I see him.'"
