Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Husayn said: I entered with my father upon Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), and a conversation took place between him (peace be upon him) and my father. Then my father said to him (peace be upon him): "What do you say about the raj'a (return)?" He said: "About this I say what Allah has said: تِلْکَ إِذاً کَرَّةٌ خاسِرَةٌ [That then would be a return occasioning loss]; that is, this return is a losing one. The tafsir of this verse reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) twenty-five nights before the verse itself came, and this is when the people return to the world and their blood-vengeance is completed." My father said: "What is meant by what Allah says in the Quran: فَإِنَّما هِیَ زَجْرَةٌ واحِدَةٌ * فَإِذا هُمْ بِالسَّاهِرَةِ [But it shall be only a single cry, when lo! they shall be awakened]?" He said: "When vengeance has been taken from the oppressors and then they have died, their souls are awake — they neither sleep nor die."
