Imam Ali (peace be upon him): Ibn Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates a long hadith in which Imam Ali (peace be upon him) recounts the story of the People of the Cave to the leaders of the Jews: ... Tamlikha said: 'Only I should go to buy [provisions].' Then he took the shepherd's clothes and put them on, went to the city and looked around, and saw that he did not recognise the place — everywhere seemed strange and unfamiliar to him. He came to the gate of the city and saw a green banner set up, on which was written in yellow script: 'There is no god but Allah, Isa is the Messenger of Allah.' He kept looking at that banner, and kept rubbing his eyes, saying to himself: 'Am I asleep or awake?' Then he moved into the city until he reached the market, and saw a baker, and said: 'What is the name of your city?' He said: 'Uqsus.' He asked: 'What is the name of the king?' He said: 'Abd al-Rahman.' Then he said to him: 'Shake me — it is as though I am dreaming.' He said: 'Are you mocking? You are dreaming and speaking with me?' Tamlikha said to the baker: 'With this waraqa (dirham) give me some ta'am (bread).' When the baker took the dirhams, he was astonished at their heaviness and their size." The Jew asked: 'O Ali (peace be upon him), what was the weight of each dirham?' He said: 'Ten dirhams and two thirds (of a dirham).' Then he said: 'The baker said to him: "Hey you, you have come upon a treasure?" Tamlikha said: "This is the price of my date-garden which I sold three days ago! And I left the city and left the people while they were still worshipping Daqyanus (Decius)." The baker became angry and said: "Instead of giving me a portion so that you may save yourself, you talk about a wine-drinking man who claimed divinity and has been dead for more than three hundred years?" Tamlikha kept insisting until the baker took him to the ruler. The ruler asked: 'What is this youth's affair?' The baker said: 'He has found a treasure.' The ruler said: 'O youth, do not fear. For our Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) has commanded us to take only a fifth from a treasure. So give its fifth, you are free.' Tamlikha said: 'O ruler! Look properly into my affair — I have not found any treasure! I am one of the inhabitants of this city.'
