سورة ق

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) was asked: "What is the wisdom in the fact that adhan (the call to prayer) has been prescribed for the prayer, whereas for other acts of worship neither adhan nor supplication has been prescribed?" He said: "Because the prayer resembles the states of the Day of Resurrection, since the adhan resembles the first blast [of the trumpet] for the death of created beings, and the iqamah resembles the second blast [for the raising of created beings on the Day of Resurrection]. Just as Allah the Exalted said: وَ اسْتَمِعْ یَوْمَ یُنادِ الْمنادِ مِنْ مَکانٍ قَرِیبٍ [And listen on the day when the crier shall cry from a near place]."

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Jamil ibn Darraj said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the words of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: وَ اسْتَمِعْ یَومَ یُنَادِ المُنَادِ مِن مَّکَانٍ قَرِیبٍ یَومَ یَسْمَعُونَ الصَّیْحَةَ بِالحَقِّ ذَلکَ یَومُ الخُرُوجِ [And listen on the day when the crier shall cry from a near place, the day when they shall hear the cry in truth; that is the day of coming forth]. He (peace be upon him) said: "It means the raj'a (return)."

Imam Ali (peace be upon him): I am the crier from a near place whom all jinn and mankind hear, and a group understands. I speak to every group — whether the tyrants or the hypocrites — in their own tongue.

Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him): وَ اسْتَمِعْ یَومَ یُنَادِ المُنَادِ مِن مَّکَانٍ قَرِیبٍ [And listen on the day when the crier shall cry from a near place] means that the crier will call out the name of al-Qa'im (may Allah hasten his noble relief) and the name of his father.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): The مَکَانٍ قَرِیبٍ [near place] that Allah the Exalted mentioned in the verse: وَ اسْتَمِعْ یَوْمَ یُنادِ المُنادِ مِنْ مَکانٍ قَرِیبٍ [And listen on the day when the crier shall cry from a near place] means the rock of Bayt al-Maqdis. It is called near because it is eighteen miles closer to the sky than the rest of the earth. An angel will stand upon it and call: "O decayed bones and severed joints! Allah commands you to gather for the Resurrection and the reckoning." And He said: یا قَوْمِ ادْخُلُوا الْأَرْضَ المُقَدَّسَةَ الَّتِی کَتَبَ اللهُ لَکُمْ [O my people, enter the Holy Land which Allah has decreed for you], meaning Bayt al-Maqdis and the villages around it.
