Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Abu Basir said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: "The father of Ibrahim was the astrologer of Nimrod ibn Kan'an, and Nimrod would issue all of his orders only according to his opinion. One night he gazed at the stars, and when morning came he said, 'This night I saw something astonishing.' Nimrod asked him, 'What is it?' He replied, 'I saw a newborn who will be born in this land, and our destruction will be at his hands. It will not be long before his mother conceives him.' Nimrod was stunned and asked, 'Has any woman yet conceived him?' The father of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) answered, 'No.' Ibrahim's father had also been informed that this child would be burnt in fire, but he did not know that Allah would rescue him. In this way the women were kept away from the men, and all the women were kept inside the city so that men could not be alone with them. The father of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) had intercourse with his wife, and she conceived Ibrahim (peace be upon him) by him, and he supposed that this child was the very child in question. So he sent for midwives who, if there were anything in a womb, would detect it. They examined the mother of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and Allah the Exalted caused the seed within the womb to cling to the mother's back. So they said, 'We see nothing in her belly.' When the mother of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) brought him forth, his father wanted to take him to Nimrod. Ibrahim's mother said to his father, 'Do not take your son to Nimrod, lest he kill him. Let me take him to one of the caves and place him there until his appointed time comes, and thus you will not be the killer of your son.' The father of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said to the mother of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), 'Then go.' The mother of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) took him to a cave. Then she suckled him. After that she placed a great stone at the mouth of the cave. Then she returned from there. Allah placed Ibrahim's sustenance in his thumb, and he began to suck it and drank milk from it. His growth in a single day was equal to the growth of other newborns in a week, his growth in a week equal to the growth of other newborns in a month, and his growth in a month equal to the growth of other newborns in a year. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) remained in that cave as long as Allah willed. Then Ibrahim's mother said to his father, 'Will you permit me to go to that little boy and see him?' His father said, 'You may go.' The mother of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) went to that cave, and suddenly she saw Ibrahim (peace be upon him) whose eyes were shining like a lamp. So she took him and clasped him to her breast and suckled him. Then she returned. Ibrahim's father asked her about the boy. She answered, 'I buried him in the earth.' Before long she would feign illness and, on some pretext, go out and come to Ibrahim (peace be upon him), take him in her arms and suckle him, then return. When Ibrahim began to walk, his mother came to him as before and did as she used to do. When she wanted to go back, Ibrahim clutched at her garment. His mother asked him, 'What is the matter with you?' Ibrahim answered, 'Take me out with you.' The mother said, 'Until I consult your father, I cannot take you out.' Thus Ibrahim (peace be upon him) continually kept himself out of the sight of others and concealed his affair, until he appeared before the people and carried out the command of Allah the Exalted, and Allah manifested His power through him."
